Kupwara: Abduction and subsequent murder of 9-year-old Umar Farooq of Gulgam Kupwara case have been transferred to Crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police after 50 days when Police could not track the murderers. The case was officially handed over to Crime branch on Sep. 1 by authorities.
A team of crime Branch headed by Javeed Ahmad Koul on Thursday visited the village and interacted with the Victim family and witnesses of the case. The team collected extensive ground report of the case and recorded details regarding the case given by family, eyewitnesses and villagers. Javeed Ahmad was accompanied by DySP Mohd Afzal who is heading Special Investigating Team (SIT) formed to investigate the case.
Station House Officer, Police Station Kupwara Mohd Ashraf and Tehsildar Kupwara, Shabir Ahmad Wani were also accompanying the team.
Javeed Ahmad Koul seeks the cooperation of family and related persons into the investigation of the case
The case file of Umar has been handed over to the crime branch.
“We have received case file of Umar Farooq Murder case and we have started an investigation into the case. We need cooperation of the family and locals to investigate the case and track murders of the boy,” Javeed Ahmad Koul said.
The family of deceased Umar made a hand fold appeal to Crime branch to crack the abduction and subsequent murder case and sought security from police.
“We request crime branch to investigate the case properly and arrest culprits as early as possible. It has been 50 days of Umar’s murder and there has been no breakthrough into the case,” mother of deceased Umar said.
“I request authorities to provide us with accommodation in some security zone until culprits are put behind bars. We feel threatened here as we have apprehension of attack from the murderers of Umar. They may attack us again to silence us,” she added.
Locals and family of Umar have high hope on Crime branch and especially on Javeed Ahmad Koul.
"On seeing Javid Sahab monitoring the investigation of the case, I once again feel hopeful that murderers of Umar will be traced out and Justice is delivered. " Farooq Ahmad, father of Umar said.
The family is having an only male member, 8 females which include the mother of Umar Farooq and his 7 sisters aged from 4 to 18 years.
Umar Farooq, a class 2nd student of Gulgam Kupwara went missing after he left his home on 16th of July this year and his mutilated dead body was found in the evening of 19th of July in a Nallah in a nearby village of Gulgam Kupwara.
The murder of the boy had sparked outrage across Kashmir valley. It also triggered a virtual shutdown in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on 20th of July (Friday).
