COMPETITIVENESS IS FOR PATIENT CARE, SHOULD NOT BE FOR MARKETING, ESPECIALLY MISLEADING MARKETING: DR FAZILI

What is the standard of ophthalmology care in Kashmir as compared to rest of India ?

Excellent. At par with majority of eye centres of big cities in India.

How much upgradation has your department seen in last 10 years and what is the quantum of money provided by the private sector?

Inspite of the fact that private sector gets painfully hit , by conflict and its consequences , the private centres in Kashmir are upgraded to the latest . If such big amounts have been provided , how much money have private centres from Delhi and elsewhere spent to have more sophisticated and advanced equipment and care I am sorry to say that they are misleading the people by showcasing not only equipment not available, but even instruments used to perform steps of surgery. To my mind it is cheap and unethical. Most big private centres here are fully equipped, but you will hardly see full page or half page Ads for the same in the newspapers. Ads do not make them better equipped, only better known. I geuss, in the modern times , medical services are purely business, and they treat it as business and reaping benefits also . I guess, I am personally old fashioned, always shy to advertise a medical service.

If they have inferior equipment than your institution, how come they are able to claim better eye care ?

Are doctors in Kashmir poorly trained or by and large having less intellect Doctors in Kashmir are very bright and have been fighting against great odds to keep abreast. At par with any other state in the country . I am , invited to every major conference as Faculty, even though I am in private sector , not to talk about medical college faculty. Our talent and skill is recognised, but surely we lack in marketing ( if medicine is supposed to b marketed)

If claims by private institutions from outside the state are misinformation or disinformation, what have u done to save your people from that ?

To my mind this is the job of the Director health services . When registration is done , a list of equipment and staff is submitted to the Director. If misinformation is spread about staff and equipment available, he is quite capable of stepping in Competition brings improvements , but should be healthy and clean . If I m forced to advertise the worlds fastest excimer laser , 4 years after I acquired it , it is not improvement, it is keeping up with a market . If I am forced to improve my patient care , that is competitiveness. Ultimately, people decide . They should decide wisely.
