Youth confused, not getting opportunities of their liking

Srinagar: Within a short span of ten years, Peaks Auto Group, a dealership of Maruti Suzuki, not only expanded its outreach across length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir but becomes a synonym to quality and excellence. And the person behind this meteoric rise is Baldeev Singh Raina, who hails from Rafiabad in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir.
Youngest of the five siblings Mr. Raina, MD and CEO peaks Auto, is an Engineer graduate from Karnataka University with Bossiness Management Course from IIM Bangalore, is an inspiration for those who want to venture into entrepreneurship.
Baldev Singh Raina , is one of the most successful young entrepreneurs in the automobile sector of Jammu and Kashmir . Under his leadership, Peaks group has firmly established itself as the premier dealership offering 3S’s across J&K par excellence and has become a coveted honour. Apart from making rapid gains in automobile sector, Peaks Group made foray into agro warehousing, medical aids and equipments, and real estate sector as well.
Mr. Raina started his professional career with Maruti Genuine Parts (MGP) outlets in Kashmir at the age of 33 in the name and style of Peaks Auto Corporation on 07-02-2007. Making custom satisfaction and quality a hallmark, he achieved a success in relatively a short span of time. He opened six more retail outlets in Kashmir and one in Ladakh . Limca Book of records has accorded Ladakh outlet as world’s highest altitude retail outlet.
In 2008, Mr.Raina made foray into Authorized Dealership of Maruti Suzuki. His sincerity and dedication bagged him the dealership in Kashmir. He opened his first showroom in Srinagar Peaks Auto Pvt.Ltd, which are almost synonyms with the state’s car market. He is keen on promoting entrepreneurship among youth especially from J&K that not only aims at creating employment opportunities but also triggering economic development of the state.
Mr. Raina is actively associated and holds key position in various government bodies , private and social institutions, schools and colleges to pave way for better chances for the employment of youth and empowerment of society.
In an exclusive conversation with The Kashmir Magazine, Mr. Raina said, “ The state of Jammu and Kashmir has immense potential and blessed with huge pool of natural resources but due to lack of planning and improper implementation of various state and central government schemes , the desired output has not been achieved which results in unemployment and slow economic growth.”

According to Mr. Baldev, the highly educated Youth in the trouble torn state is confused and not getting opportunities of their liking hence situation turning murkier. Now, “ it is the responsibility of all of us to change the mindset of youth ad make them realize that entrepreneurship is the only way out.” He said, “ lets train them to establish manufacturing or service units, either medium or small , so as to involve them in gainful process otherwise they would spoil their life due to depression .
Mr.Bldev in his conversation underscored the importance of entrepreneurship and said, “Government alone can’t resolve the crises. Civil Society also needs to be pro-active to be combat the unemployment and to rejuvenate the spirit of service to the state in particular and the country at large. The mindset is required to be changed and at first step that is required to be done by the parents. We need to prepare our children for future challenges with the spirit of entrepreneurships.”
Mr. Raina who began with Auto Mobile entrepreneurship and has now ventured into other sectors like real estate, horticulture and other sectors has been providing employment to nearly two thousand employees and gained 40% market share in J&K.
“ We started this journey in 2008 with first outlet at Bye-Pass Srinagar . Since then we’ve expanded to other parts of J&K by opening state of the art showroom and service workshops in cities like Anantnag, Jammu, Pulwama, Shopian, Sunderbani, Surankot, Nagrota, Kalakote, Shopian and Ashmuqam making us the most fast expanding group in the country.
Stepping ahead with an aim of serving the society and for the economic development of the state to enhance and contribute the GDP of the state, Mr. Raina started a venture in the name of Peaks Agro warehousing Pvt Ltd. A 5000MT controlled atmosphere facility has been established at Lasipora Pulwama with an objective of providing a state of Art facility to the small and backward growers in horticulture to enable them to compete at National market by storing their produce at very negligible cost so as to have a proper price of their produce on competitive basis.
