Former Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation Sheikh Imran on Tuesday asserted that those promoted corruption in SMC were shown door by dedicated Corporators and added the dream of making Srinagar a ‘Smart-City’ will come true by the joint efforts of Corporators.
Talking to Kashmir Magazine , Sheikh Imran expressed gratitude over the verdict of Corporators who took part in No-Confidence Motion and voted against Junaid Matoo.
Earlier in the day, Matoo has been removed by Corporators as Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation after a no-Confidence motion was passed against him by the corporators.
Former Dy Mayor asserted that the Corporators were fed up from misappropriation in SMC and today they took bold decision while fighting against those who promoted corruption in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
“Those who promoted corruption culture in SMC were shown door by Corporators”, former Dy Mayor said.
He reiterated that the combined efforts by Corporators will continue their work for the betterment of people. “We will politically groom and will continue our efforts for the betterment of people”, former Dy Mayor said.
Prior to Sheikh Imran encouragement by Corporators, Mattu himself announced the development on Twitter saying the motion had been passed with 42 out of 70 corporators voting against him and 28 abstained from voting.
He said that corporators from BJP and NC had polled against those from his party, PC and the Congress, which had already announced its support to Mattu in the motion.
“I respect the verdict of the Corporation. The seemingly unthinkable seems to have happened as @JKNC_ and @BJP4India have come together in Srinagar. But more on that later, ” Mattu tweeted.
“Time to spend some time with my family after nearly four months of our war against #COVID19,” he added. He also changed his twitter bio to “Former Mayor of Srinagar”.
