Reopening of Schools

Kashmir Magazine

As the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha led administration in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to reopen schools for classes 10th and 12th but with a cap of not more than 50 percent capacity including staff and students at a given time, it must think about reopening of schools for primary classes as well.

We all are aware that the Covid-19 outbreak last year brought everything to a grinding halt across the globe including closure of schools. Now that there is a dip in daily Covid-19 cases in India and like every state, the UT administration has decided to reopen schools for classes 10th and 12th with limited staff and students so as to avoid further spread of the deadly virus and avoid the situation to go out of hand.

The government’s first priority should be to ensure safety for all students and staff members and rightly so, the government has already issued guidelines for all schools for reopening in order to ensure safety for all.

Likewise, government should take steps to reopen schools for primary classes as well with proper SOPs so that they do not have to suffer further for want of education.

In times of pandemic, safety should come first, but steps must be taken by the government to ensure a safe and secure future for all students.
