Political appointees buying time to evade quitting

Kashmir Magazine

Though twenty seven political appointees engaged by the previous Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition government have resigned but many more engaged as consultants and advisors in severaldepartments by previous Mehbooba government are still being spared by the Vohra administration for unknown reasons.

Several others engaged as consultants and advisors in many departments, public sector corporations and autonomous bodies are yet to quit and prefer to wait for the sacking by the government. Though political morality demands that once a popular government seizes to exist the political appointees are duty bound to quit on high moral grounds but ironically the political appointees of every popular government explore all possibilities to continue occupying offices. Surprisingly the administrative secretaries asked to furnish the list of consultants and advisors engaged by the previous Mehbooba government bye or before July 09, 2018 but several administrative secretaries have failed to adhere to the guideline set by the state administrative council (SAC) but till today only few administrative secretaries have sent the list of consultants and advisors working in their departments to the General Administration Department. Shockingly the administrative secretaries have been asked to send recommendations either for termination or continuation of the consultants and the advisors keeping in view the scope for the utility of the services of the appointees. Since the term of political appointees is co-terminus with the term of the popular government the government has no right to allow any political appointee to continue in office in the larger interests of institutional and administrative accountability and political neutrality. Governor N N Vohra commanding great deal of public respect for showing respect to administrative accountability and institutional integrity should in larger public interest terminate the services of all the political appointees.
