Meet Tajamul Mir: Kupwara’s new singing sensation

Tajamul Gani Mir, a 25-year old youth hailing from Rajwara village some 10 kms away from main town Kupwara has become a new musical sensation of Kashmir and his melody melts umpteen hearts.

Talking to The Kashmir Magazine, Tajamul said that he was interested in music since his childhood but there was no platform available.

“I used to participate in cultural shows in school. I used to sing Bollywood, Sufi, and Punjabi numbers. I started uploading songs on various apps, but it did not thrill people. But I did not lose hope and tried to give my best,” he said.

He said that initially he was lacking family support that made him depressed. “It was difficult to convince my parents because they had a notion that music has no future. There was a lack of awareness, they had no idea what music is all about. I had to fight with them to chase my dreams but now they are supporting me as they see I am doing well in this field,” Tajamul said.

Tajamul has received his formal training from a local signer Gulfham of Batkoot village and then from a Srinagar based musical house.

He said that there are many but if he talks about musical inspiration, it is that he grew up listening to him.

“Some local artists from Kupwara as well, their stories are inspiring because when they used to sing there were no resources available. They worked hard on our language and folk music.”

Unlike other singers who sing to earn, Tajamul spends his own money. “I spend from my pocket for my music. I invest my money to popularise music. I wish there are sponsors so that my music could reach more people,” he said.

He also narrates the support of friends to grow in the field of singing and said that among all, SI Rashid Khan has been making all efforts to help him fulfil his dream.

“He is too caring, treats my like my own brother.”

Tajamul aims to debut in Bollywood one day.

“My ultimate dream is to become a playback singer in Bollywood. I hope it comes true,” he said.
