A Kashmiri Model

"Modeling is the easiest job in the world," said no model ever. Contrary to popular belief, having a few photos taken can be exhausting work. However, 20-year old Imran Khan from Kashmir is making inroads into the fashion industry and has recently participated in few fashion shows in New Delhi and Mumbai.

Hailing from Larnoo village of Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Khan has been working in the fashion industry for the last one year and has signed multiple contracts with both national and international companies.

“I wanted to become a model from my childhood. It was my dream however with strenuous efforts pressed I am standing in queue today”, Khan told Kashmir Magazine.

He said I have a contract with New Delhi based agency ‘Purple Thoughts’ and I’m exploring more options as well.

Apart from modeling, Khan is pursuing bachelors in Science from Government Degree College Anantnag. “Last year there was an audition by ‘360 Advertising Production’ in Srinagar. I also registered for the event and was selected there. Thereafter I went to New Delhi and started exploring the fashion industry”, he said.

“There are struggles and stories everywhere but one has to face these challenges and move on in his or her career”, he maintained.

Khan has worked with many national and international agencies so far and believes that Kashmiri’s have enough talent inbuilt that needs a suitable platform to excel.

“We have a good number of youth with multi-talented skills but unfortunately due to lack of platform their talent is buried under rust”, he said.

Khan, a son of mason, said though initially his family didn’t allow him to opt for a fashion industry career however with the passage of time they are satisfied with my work and proudly introduced me in public.

Over the past year, Khan has worked in TVCs, fashion shows, runways, and campaigns. He has also walked with India’s top-class designers including Kunal Rawal. He also did TVC with famous Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi and was featured in many print shoots.

Khan says he has also worked in Ninjas Models and some international agencies had also approached him. “Though some people discouraged me, I continued to follow my passion and did not look back”, he concluded.
