Improved Power Scenario in J&K

Kashmir Magazine

For the last couple of years, Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing improvement in the power scenario as frequent power cuts, which was a routine especially during winter months, have considerably come down and people have been receiving optimal power supply even during the winter months. The credit must go to Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation, earlier known as Power Development Department.

Credit must also been given to the LG led administration and the officers who are at the helm of affairs at Power Development Corporation. With improved power supply even during winter months, the people have heaved a sigh of relief as in the absence of regular power supply, especially during winter months, people had to face a lot of difficulties.

It may also be noted that the power supply has not only improved in the already electrified areas, but many remote villages including border villages, have also been electrified as till now there was no provision of electricity in those remote areas. This is one such major step towards new and progressive Jammu and Kashmir, as people from these areas had been suffering a lot in the absence of power supply.

Not only this, many villages and even towns had been witnessing improved power supply after augmentation of transformers in these areas. Earlier, one transformer would cater to a huge population in some towns and villages of the Union Territory, now with the augmentation of transformers, these areas have got extra transformers that has improved the power supply and reduced load shedding in these areas.

But with the improvement in power supply, consumers also need to play an important to help the department serve better. People ought to make judicious use of the electricity in order to help the department provide better services to the consumers. People also should avoid power pilferage, especially during winter months, which in turn will help the department provide better services to the consumers, and people also need to pay power bills in time.
